At Blue Butterfly Pinner, we have been proudly working towards our Eco-Schools Green Flag application, putting sustainability and environmental awareness at the heart of everything we do.
The Eco-Schools programme is a globally recognised initiative led by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE). It empowers children and young people to take an active role in caring for the environment, both within their nursery setting and in the wider local community.
Throughout our journey, our children have been hands-on in learning how small, everyday actions can make a big difference. From recycling and reducing waste to exploring nature and understanding how to care for our world, we have been building positive habits that will last a lifetime.
Working towards the Green Flag has encouraged us to reflect on our practices, make meaningful changes, and involve our children in decision-making. It has been a wonderful opportunity to nurture curiosity, responsibility and a love for the natural world, while also strengthening our commitment to creating a greener, more sustainable future for everyone.
Blue Butterfly Big Clean Up Week
We recently held our ‘Blue Butterfly Big Clean Up Week’, where children from all of our classrooms enjoyed getting out into the local community around the nursery.
With gentle guidance from their teachers and support from parents, the children took part in simple litter-picking activities, helping to tidy up the streets and green spaces nearby. It was a lovely way for them to feel involved and take pride in their surroundings.
This experience helped the children begin to understand, in an age-appropriate way, how we can all look after the world around us. Most importantly, it gave them the chance to take part in a hands-on activity, showing that even the smallest actions can make a positive difference.
