At Blue Butterfly Montessori Pinner, we are committed to delivering high-quality early years education, rooted in care, ambition, and a deep understanding of how children learn best.
Our recent Mock Ofsted Inspection (Pre-Inspection Visit) provided a valuable opportunity to reflect on our practice and evaluate the impact of our provision on children’s learning and development.
The visit recognised many strengths across our setting, particularly in the quality of education, safeguarding, inclusive practice, and leadership, while also supporting our ongoing journey of continuous improvement.
A Strong and Embedded Safeguarding Culture
Children feel safe, and safeguarding is strong and shared across the setting. Leaders promote an open culture where concerns are identified and managed effectively.
Safer recruitment procedures are consistently implemented, ensuring that all required pre-employment checks are completed prior to individuals commencing work with children. Staff are well trained, confident in recognising welfare concerns, and follow clear reporting procedures, supported by ongoing training and updates.
Exceptional standard of inclusion
Inclusive practice is embedded throughout the setting, with leaders and staff providing strong support for all children, including those with SEND. Leaders maintain excellent oversight, using funding and resources effectively to meet individual needs and improve outcomes. Staff are committed, using tailored strategies to support learning, communication, and self-regulation, while celebrating children’s diverse backgrounds.
Ongoing professional development ensures staff are well equipped, and close collaboration with parents, the SENCO, and external professionals enables early identification and targeted support. Careful transition planning and wider partnership work further support children to make sustained progress.
An Ambitious and Thoughtfully Sequenced Curriculum
Leaders and staff have a clear, shared understanding of an ambitious, inclusive, well-sequenced curriculum that blends Montessori principles with the EYFS. It is regularly reviewed and adapted to meet children’s individual needs, ensuring all make strong progress.
Staff use their strong knowledge of child development to deliver purposeful interactions, accurately assess learning, and provide targeted support. They know children well and confidently plan next steps.
The environment is well adapted for all ages, with a strong focus on communication, physical, and personal development. Practitioners place a strong emphasis on developing children’s communication and language, as well as their physical, personal, social, and emotional development. A well-planned outdoor area and enriching experiences further enhance learning and development.
Positive Outcomes for Children & School-Ready Children
All children, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities and those facing additional barriers to learning, make excellent progress from their individual starting points. This reflects secure foundations in confidence, independence, and positive attitudes to learning.
Effective Leadership and a Culture of Reflection
Leaders demonstrate strong commitment and clear ambition to continuously enhance the provision in order to meet the evolving needs of children and their families. Deployment of staff is highly effective. The best interests of children are central to all leadership decisions. Leaders closely monitor the implementation of the curriculum to ensure it remains inclusive, ambitious, and effective in securing the best possible outcomes for every child.
Strong Partnerships with Parents
Strong and respectful partnerships are established with parents and the wider community.
Parents are well informed about their children’s learning and development. They speak very positively about the quality of care, communication, and the progress their children make.
